Our Approach

Let’s Talk It Through.

Good custom work starts with a real conversation. We want to understand what is not working in the space, what you like, and what you need the finished room to do for you.

Whether it is an entrance that needs more impact, shelving that needs to work harder, or storage that has to make sense for a busy family, the goal is to come up with the right solution—not just add something to the wall.

01

Start with the real needs

We take a close look at the space and ask the practical questions: how it is used, who uses it, what needs to be stored, and where the frustrations are.

02

Think through the details

This is where we get creative. We enjoy finding the small choices and possibilities that make the finished work look better, work harder, and feel right for the home.

03

Make it feel like it belongs

The final piece should be useful, well-proportioned, and finished in a way that feels natural to the room—not like an off-the-shelf solution squeezed into it.

About Istra Lux

Old-school craftsmanship, carried forward.

A house framing project from Steve's family construction background

Hi, I’m Steve. I started Istra Lux in 2025 after a lifetime around contracting and hands-on work. I grew up in a family of contractors with roots in Istria, Croatia, and woodworking was part of everyday life long before it became my own business.

From the time I was six, I worked alongside my father in his custom woodworking shop. He had a natural gift for the work, and he taught me the kind of things that are hard to learn from a book: how to think through a build, make the most of a space, and care about the small details that make the finished work feel right.

After building a career in contracting and business, I came back to woodworking because it is what I genuinely enjoy. I like working with homeowners to make a room more useful, more personal, and better looking—then seeing the finished result become part of how they live. Istra Lux is built on that family background, clear communication, and doing what I say I’m going to do.
